Covering Sports in a Pandemic

Covering sports when there aren’t sports going on is a tough task. Luckily, sports leagues have figured out a way to bring us what we have all been craving. Suns fans were blessed to have an opportunity to watch their team play eight fantastic games in the bubble. Since then, I have decided to make a blog about the Phoenix Suns.

Writing a blog is something new to me, but I am very excited to get started. The timing of this blog is not the best due to the pandemic going on, but there is always a lot of things to talk about with the Phoenix Suns. The team will be looking to build off a strong showing in the bubble.

This is a new chapter of House of Phoenix Suns. It used to just be an Instagram page. Eventually, it grew from just an Instagram page to a Twitter page as well. Later on, it grew to a podcast as well. Now, this is probably the biggest House of Phoenix Suns chapter, the House of Phoenix Suns Blog.

Before, I did not cover the Suns in-depth enough to be able to make a blog for the Suns. Now, I have more connections to the Suns which allows for more coverage and more accurate news. There will be a lot of things going on this offseason that will be covered more in-depth than ever before.

The pandemic is a very tough thing for everybody to deal with. Not having sports is an afterthought in many people’s lives, but that has affected a lot of people. Some athletes had to go to a bubble to participate in their sports. They had to leave their families behind to do the things they are paid to do. It is a tough task to ask, but sports fans are very grateful for their sacrifice.

A good thing about starting a blog during the pandemic is the social distancing aspect of it. There is no need to come in contact with anybody which keeps everyone safe. The negative part about it, is that only a limited amount of people are allowed to go to practices and games. My plan is to continue to do this after the pandemic is settled as well.

Other analysts and reporters have also encountered problems with reporting because of the pandemic. Kellan Olson said that they had to do zoom meetings with the Suns players that were in the bubble because they could not be there to do the press conferences. The post-game interviews also have to be socially distanced.

People have adjusted to this new way of life and are now used to these new ways of covering sports. When reporters and analysts are allowed to go back to their old routines, they won’t take their jobs for granted. They will know what it is like to cover things that are not usually covered.

Sports are slowly starting to come back, and I am hoping that we will have a full NBA season with fans next year. The NBA will do everything they can in order to make that happen and to keep the players safe in the process. The NBA was the first league to implement the bubble.

Overall, I think this blog will be a good opportunity to talk about the Suns in ways that I have not been able to before. It is a very exciting time in sports right now and it is exciting to see what the future hold for not only the suns but all sports around the world
